April 28, 2012, Paul, Janet, Stephen (11), and Alex (7) celebrate Paul's 11 years as a survivor of brain cancer. On the first day Paul was stable enough after brain surgery, the doctor told him he had brain cancer. The doctor also told him that life expectancy was 2 years. Paul was 43 years old. Devastated that her young boys were losing their dad. Janet went home, got on the phone, started calling and researching hospital doctors with specific experience with brain cancer and had him transferred. She asked many people for prayers and received abundant financial and emotional support from their community and strangers, which kept their bills paid during the ordeal. The fear of losing him made it hard to get out of bed or even to breath. After suffering through brain surgery, chemo, radiation, and a year of steroids for brain swelling, Paul is still with us, and this past year watched his son Stephen in June 2011 graduate from Coast Guard training and will watch his youngest son Alex graduate high school this May, 2012. Happy Cancer Survivor Birthday Paul!
