Never Give Up

by Tina

It was 1993, close to Thanksgiving, when my little brother Darren was told he had a meningioma brain tumor. My parents never knew what it was until then. I remember when I first noticed the change he had with nausea/vomiting on late nights, and before school he wasn't eating much. He also started getting headaches all the time, which was not normal.

Darren would always walk to my mom's work and wait for me to pick him up. However, one day when I went to pick him up he sat in my mom's car and didn't look good. I took him to the clinic to get a check-up. Later, the doctor came out and said he needed to talk to our parents. They called my mom and she went to the hospital, then they called my dad and that's when we heard the news about the tumor. My brother had to be transported to Flagstaff, and then Phoenix where he had surgery, and went through chemotherapy. It was the hardest thing for the family, but we had a lot of support and prayers.

It is true that God is love and through Him anything is possible. It's been years and my brother is now 30 years old. Again, he was told that the tumor was back and my parents were told that they had a choice of either having another surgery which they said was going to be risky. I know that he will be okay because he never gave up the first time. We are all praying that he will recover and just have faith. "God bless my baby brother Darren. He still has a lot to live for and he has goals to reach. Be with him and that the right decision is made for his surgery and that he will recover soon after....love him. Thank you for all the many blessings...Amen."
