My sister was diagnosed in Feb 2003. She had surgery just a week before her birthday that year and died on my birthday in August 2004. We were very close all our lives. 2 months before she passed she was in a hospital in Seattle for a follow up visit, wheelchair bound and in a great deal of pain because the tumor had grown back so big. It affected her sight, but her eyes still shined with brightness. Mary, her husband Bob and my mother had just left what was a very emotional appt because the prognosis was so poor. The elevator stopped on a floor below and a man stepped on standing next to my sister. Mom and Bob hadn't even noticed him they were so wrapped up in their thoughts and struggling with what they had been told. But even though she was in pain and couldn't see, Mary sensed this man was also struggling, she reached out and took his hand and said, "I hope everything is OK". She was very special. I miss you Mary-every day and always.
