My husband of 35 years just passed away July 15, 2011. I lost my best friend and the love of my life. He was only 61 years old. He was diagnosed on May 8, 2009, had surgery May 14, and the biopsy confirmed it was a glioblastoma tumor. He endured 6 weeks of intense (maximum dose) radiation and chemotherapy. He was in remission for 18 months.
Two tumors came back in November of 2010 while he was still on Temodar. Multiple doctors confirmed that they were inoperable and they put him on Camptosar and Avastin which kept them from growing until March 2011. Side effects from Camptosar were horrendous, so they stopped it and just continued with Avastin and low dose Temodar. Both caused extremely high liver enzymes and an enlarged liver, so that was stopped too.
His last MRI was June 8, 2011 and the tumor had tripled in size. He was given 2 months, but only lived 37 days. Thank God for hospice and the local nursing home for their support and loving care. My wish is for a cure for this horrible cancer. My heart goes out to all those affected; the patient and their loving families. My life will never be the same. I couldn't have loved my husband more, but I could have loved him longer.
