My son's story began on November 13, 2007. His pediatrician wanted him to have a brain CT scan done, because she diagnosed him with hydrocephaly. So, I took him to a hospital an hour away from our home. He got the scan done, and the results weren't good. He was admitted to the hospital and had his first surgery on November 15, 2007. I met with the neurosurgeon and went over the scans with him. He told me that Cameron had a soft-ball sized astrocytoma brain tumor. I was devasted. Cameron's dad was at work and he later came to the hospital. Cameron required 2 surgeries, 2 months apart to remove the tumor. We met with a oncologist and she went over the options for treatment. At the time of the diagnosis Cam was only 3 years-old. Cameron ended up having a shunt put in and endured 5 brain surgeries. He had chemotherapy and radiation treatments. We had two and a half years with him. He passed away on May 1. Cam never understood what was wrong with him. He was such a little fighter. And he never let anything stop him from doing what he loved to do. He did get to attend Kindergarten last year. He was such a blessing to all of us. I miss him terribly. I hope his story encourages others going through something similiar.
