2 rare diseases plus GBM for such a kind, loving father

by Sherry

DadI still don't understand how someone who has been so loving, so full of laughter and joy all his life ended up with not one, but 2 fairly rare diseases, as well as GBM. My Dad, last October, on my Sister's birthday (10/3) found he had brain cancer after tests done on my birthday (10/4). He had surgery a week later and came out of it fine, talking, walking, the same man he was before any of this happened. 3 weeks later (11/2) he rentered the hospital with dehydration and never came out. Diagnosed after a punctured lung when a doctor tried to do a mainline, he came down with aspergillis (5 out of 100,000/yr-worldwide) and Herpes Simplex Encephalitis on the brain (1 out of 1 million/yr). He hasn't spoken much since then, not walked, been on a feeding tube and today we found the tumor has returned, larger then it had been before. We are devastated. Because of the aspergillis and HSE he couldn't start radiation, and I feel lost. We have prayed for a miracle, but one wasn't to be found. How can someone who has been so kind end up like this...I'll never understand. These are horrible diseases, each on their own, but together.....
