My brain tumor was a central neurocytoma. It was only recognized by the health care industry as an official brain tumor in the 1980s. Since then, approximately 100 people have been cursed with this tumor and I am one of them. It was only found due to a pressure wave causing me to blackout while at the wheel. I woke up with the paramedics next to me and the car was written off as I had hit a tree 100 meters off the road. I went to the hospital where I had scans to find out there was a mass in the middle of my brain blocking CSF flow. I had surgery at a public hospital on the Gold Coast of Australia where the neurosurgeon didn't get it all. Six months later I had minimally invasive surgery by a physician who had opperated on one of the presidents of the United States. This time all of the tumor was removed. It has now been 20 months since my second operation and my memory is still affected (I need to use a diary to keep track of my to-do lists). I have attempted to return to the University, but I have forgotten my math skills and have failed Math 101. Pretty sad as I defined myself as a math guy. I am now studying for a bachelor of biomedical science as that is the information I can remember from my first degree that I ended up dropping out of, a degree in dental science in dental technology.
