Community Events FAQ

If you are interested in organizing a fundraising event to benefit NBTS in your community, our development staff has proven experience and guidelines to assist you in the planning process. Think about the following information to help you through the first stages and don't forget to contact NBTS to notify us of your plans.

  1. What type of fundraising event should I plan?
  2. Should I recruit a planning committee?
  3. How much should I charge to attend my event?
  4. How can NBTS help me to plan my event?
  5. How can I fundraise online?
  1. What type of fundraising event should I plan?

Consider the amount of time you have to commit to the planning process. What is unique about your community? What would be interesting to local participants? Don't forget to think about what you would find enjoyable to plan.

  2. Should I recruit a planning committee?

Recruiting volunteers, while not absolutely necessary, can be a great way to organize your event. Make a list of the people you know who can help you reach out to individuals and companies within your community. Perhaps you can recruit someone whose cause you supported in the past through donations or volunteering. Find individuals who can donate their time, will commit to helping out, and will plan to participate at the event.

  3. How much should I charge to attend my event?

It is not necessary to charge your guests to attend; however, it can be another means to help raise funds. Before assigning a cost to attend your event, think about the expenses that will be generated to plan your fundraiser. You will need to charge an ample amount to cover event expenses and turn a profit. Donors will also expect you to keep expenses to minimum so that most of the cost to attend will benefit NBTS rather than pay expenses. Remember that the more in-kind donations (goods and services) that are donated to your event, the fewer items you will have to expense.

  4. How can NBTS help me to plan my event?

The NBTS Development Staff is here to assist you with your fundraising. We have experience planning events, can offer suggestions, and can connect you with past-event organizers. Please email or call us when you are ready to get started at 1.800.770.8287 or CommunityEvents@braintumor.org.

  5. How can I fundraise online?

Fundraising online is an easy way for you to reach out to a large number of people. The first thing you will need to do is contact CommunityEvents@braintumor.org to receive your online posting information. One thing to remember: most people will give because of their connection with you. Facts and statistics are important but your personal story will have the biggest impact. Once you have finished your page, send the link to all of your friend and family. Make sure to ask them to forward it on to all of their friends as well.
