The Web Operations Specialist plays an integral role in development and maintenance of the National Brain Tumor Society's web presence and support of its online systems and initiatives. This position assists in the evaluation and implementation of web-based tools; the use, maintenance, and support of existing tools; and the technical implementation of custom web content.
The Web Operations Specialist is a member of the Information Services department and reports to the Online Operations Manager. This position can be based in the Watertown, MA or San Francisco, CA offices; telecommuting is a possibility for the ideal candidate.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Create custom web applications and work with vendors and staff to add dynamic and interactive functionalities to websites
- Customize functionality of organizational and special purpose websites using HTML (HTML5 is a plus), CSS, Javascript, APIs, and Flash
- Code websites based on graphical mock-ups and work with Graphic Designer to ensure designs/layouts adhere to web standards
- Code and test website wrappers, email stationery (templates), and custom web pages
- Manage and continually refine comprehensive use of CSS throughout websites
- Create and test custom-coded email blasts (includes e-newsletters, event recruiting emails, emails to event participants, etc.)
- Assist with integration of social media into web presence and online fundraising efforts
- Assist with integrating web and data systems and functions (via APIs)
- Assist with research and testing of new apps and customizations for Salesforce and/or Common Ground
- Assist with technical aspects of website management, including customizations, testing, site migrations, Google analytics, etc.
- Collaborate with vendors and staff on customizations and upgrades to online community platform (ThePort)
- Train and support staff users as necessary
- Collaborate with staff and support vendors in troubleshooting issues
- Apply knowledge of and best practices in programming techniques, web-based systems, and database interactivity
- Author and maintain systems documentation according to policies and standards
- Keep abreast of developments in related technologies and assist with identifying, analyzing, and evaluating technological solutions
- Edit videos and photos for posting online; slice up layout mock-ups to create websites
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience, plus extensive experience as a user
- Strong project management capabilities as well as excellent organizational, communication, analytical skills
- Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, and Fireworks beneficial
- Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.)
- Work comfortably with vendors and staff at all levels
- Ability to accommodate minimal travel requirements (5% travel)
- Adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing web content via a CMS preferred
- Flash experience preferred
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Experience with Convio (or similar system like Kintera) beneficial
- Experience with Salesforce.com and/or Raiser's Edge CRM beneficial
- Bachelor's degree required, prefer degree in Computer Science or MIS
Advanced knowledge of and experience with the following required
- HTML, CSS, and a web-based scripting language for writing web applications
- Cross-platform, cross-browser compatibility issues, including email clients and mobile devices
- JavaScript, jQuery, and XML
- Professional web application development (building database-driven applications and websites)
