The National Brain Tumor Society is a leading non-profit fiercely committed to finding a cure for brain tumors. We are currently seeking a highly energetic professional with a track record of designing, developing, delivering, and administering fundraising programs. The Major and Planned Gifts Officer develops and implements strategies for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major and planned gift prospects with the capacity for a major gift of $50,000 and above. This position will report to the Chief Development Officer, and will work collaboratively with the Director of Major Gifts and Individual Giving, Executive Director, Board of Directors, senior members of the development team and program staff. This position will be based out of the Watertown, MA office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit major donors interested in the mission of the National Brain Tumor Society
- Conceptualize, develop, and execute effective strategies to retain and grow a portfolio of donors
- Maintain and cultivate one-on-one relationships with assigned donors to enhance their connections and lifetime loyalty to the National Brain Tumor Society
- Offer prospect strategy counsel to the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and development team
- Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure
- Execution and oversight of a Planned Giving Program
- Prepare proposals for solicitation of individual, corporate, and/or foundation prospects
- Establish long- and short-term goals/objectives to create annual development plans with prospect strategies designed to achieve these goals and objectives.
- Provide thorough analysis of new business prospecting results
- Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle including:
- Initiate contact with potential leadership and major individual and corporate gift donors
- Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them
- Maintain stewardship contact, adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate empathetic disposition and perseverance
- Track prospect activity
- Provide exceptional customer service and stewardship
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree preferred
- At least three (3) years of experience and success in major or planned gift fundraising
- Progressively responsible experience in the design and implementation of complex development programs, emphasizing the identification, cultivation and securing of annual and major philanthropic commitments from individuals, corporations, and foundations
- Demonstrated experience raising gifts of $100,000 or more
- Sound knowledge of the full spectrum of development practices, principles and activities, including gift policies, solicitations, stewardship, donor recognition, administration, working with high-level volunteer committees, and the ability to apply this knowledge creatively to fundraising projects
- Demonstrated skills in meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, evaluation, and execution
- Experience managing a team of development professionals
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with management, staff, community leaders, volunteers, and donors
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as serve as a senior member of the development team
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Convio and/or SalesForce preferred
- Ability and willingness to travel 35% of the time
