The creation of the National Brain Tumor Society, through the 2008 merger of our legacy organizations, presented an opportune moment to revisit our research approach and funding strategies. Our professional staff consulted with leading researchers and clinicians to gather input and shape our evolving approach. Today our grant programs represent a comprehensive model that is effective for researchers, inclusive of industry expertise, and promising for the patient community.
Standard and Advanced Research Grant Programs
Modeled on our areas of historical success, the Standard and Advanced Grants continue to offer funding for basic and translational research, available to academic and not-for-profit institutions. Applications for the Standard and Advanced programs are open annually to all areas of investigation, ensuring that NBTS supports promising projects across the research spectrum. These programs are purposefully designed to support high-quality research that is paired with the commitment and logistical support to move findings further down the research pipeline.
Standard Grants support investigations that answer critical basic and translational scientific questions. Advanced Grants are intended for basic research that presents a clear pathway to translational research, and for translational research with the significant potential to accelerate the discovery of brain tumor therapies.
- Standard: $100,000 per year (1 to 2 years)
- Advanced: $200,000 per year (3 years)
Innovation Research Grant Program
The Innovation Research Grant Program is designed to support highly innovative or catalytic research projects that will significantly move the field forward. These may include "out-of-the-box" projects or research that is critical to move therapies down the pipeline. In addition to RFAs, NBTS will proactively solicit potentially transformative research projects through this program. Innovation Grants are designed to invest in promising investigations that may have less existing data or other background material than required for Standard and Advanced applications. Researchers in academic or industry labs and at all stages of their career may be funded through this program.
- $150,000 per year (2 years)
- NBTS requests Innovation Grant Letters of Intent via our website on a rolling basis.
- NBTS solicits applications from industry leaders whose work may apply to brain tumor therapies.
Pediatric Research Initiative
Our commitment to pediatric research is demonstrated across these three funding programs. Learn more about the Pediatric Research Initiative.
