Welcome to the NBTS Message Boards. Below are some basic instructions for how to connect with others on our Message Boards.
You must login to use and read the NBTS message boards. The first time you visit, click the “Register” button to create your user login name and password. If you would like the computer to remember your information, click the “Remember Me” button. Each time you come on the site it will remember your login information.
I am already registered but I forgot my Password. What can I do?
If you cannot remember your password but remember your user login name, click the retrieve password button on the login page and you will be taken to a page to enter your user login name. Your password reminder will be sent to you in an email to the email address you provided when you initially set up your account.
We may be able to help. Call our Patient Services Staff at 800.934.2873. If this does not work, you may create another login and re-register. Utilizing the “Remember Me” feature may help you and your computer to remember your user login name.
How can I change my Password?
You can change your password once you are logged into the system. Click on “My Profile” at the top of your screen in the service menu. Next, click “Edit profile”. From the “Edit Profile” page, you will see the option to “Change Password” on the right side of the screen. When you click on it, a new line (“Confirm Password”) will appear under “Password”. Enter your new password into the “Password” box and then re-enter it into the “Confirm Password”. Remember to write it down and keep it in a safe place.
How do I logout so another person can login?
In the top area of your screen is a menu. Logout is the first option. Clicking this will log you out and bring you back to the homepage of the website and allow for someone else to go back to the message boards and login. You do not have to login to view the website, only to use the message boards.
Can I login as a guest or post anonymously?
You can hide your name when you post by selecting “Hide My Name” at the bottom of the registration form when you first register for the boards. Once you have registered, you can hide your name by editing your profile through the “My Profile” option that appears at the top of your screen when you are logged in. Be aware that your login will always show so do not use your name as your login if you want to remain anonymous. You can also login using “Guest” as the user login name and “Guest” as the password if you just want to visit and check out the boards.
Using the Message Boards
How do I post a message?
There are currently multiple discussion or message boards. These boards are forums for patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones to share information and connect. To post a message, click on the board you want to post your message on. Once on the screen, click the “Post” button in the top right corner of your screen. Your message subject and body can be typed in the space provided. When you are finished typing press submit. This will begin a new thread. Please note that there may be a delay before the message appears.
How do I reply to another person’s message?
While you are in the message, click the “Reply” button. You will write your comments in the same type of box you would use to post a message and hit submit. This will add your message to the thread.
Can I receive a list of daily messages in an email digest?
Our message boards do not have this functionality at this time.
I want to visit the boards regularly. How can I create a bookmark or favorite?
Create a bookmark or favorite to the login screen. This will bring you to the message boards. If you use the “Remember Me” function, your computer should remember that you are signed in and you will go directly to the messages.
Are the message boards monitored or moderated?
The NBTS message boards are moderated by trained staff members for appropriate content. If you have any issues with message or their content, please contact the Patient Services staff by sending an email to info@braintumor.org. We reserve the right to eliminate posters or postings for any reason.
My Profile
What is a profile?
Your profile can contain a bit of extra information about yourself that other message board users can access. The information can be entered as you create your account or by using the “Edit Profile” page (that can be reached by clicking “My Profile” at the top of your screen when logged in). You control the information in your profile.
It can include: your first/last name, a photo, and a short “About me” paragraph.
It will always include: your username, first and last name (if you have not checked “Hide My Name”) and the date when you first joined the boards.
It does not include your password or email address.
Other message board users can view your profile when they click on your username from within the boards.
How do I use this feature?
To create or edit your profile, first you will need to login to the message boards. At the top of your screen, you will see a service menu (in small teal type) – One of the options is “My Profile”. Click on “My Profile” and you will see your login, email address and “member since” date. Underneath this information, you will see “Edit profile”. Click on this and you will be taken to the “Edit Profile” page where you can make changes to your Username, Password, Email address, First/Last Name, Image, and “About me” paragraph.
Once you have made changes, click the “Submit” button and the information will be saved. If you would like to delete information that you have entered, click the “Reset” button and your profile will return to its original state.
What is “Hide My Name”?
On the “Edit Profile” page, you will see a check box at the bottom of the options “Hide My Name”. Checking this box will not make you completely invisible to other users, but rather will hide your first and last name that you have entered into your profile when you post. Your Username will still appear with every post, even if you check “Hide My Name”. If you would like to be completely anonymous, see “Can I login as a guest or post anonymously?” question and answer above.
Please contact us via email (info@braintumor.org) with any other questions or comments. We welcome your feedback.
Thank you!
